Want to work smarter, not harder when challenges arise with children? It starts with learning to see the child behind the behavior.

In this podcast, Laura explores the connection among brain development, basic needs, the brain’s drives, and it’s operating systems. Sound confusing? It’s not! Take a listen to help you update some of your “software” regarding “why” children have challenging behaviors.

See the Child behind the Behavior

Separating the behavior from the child creates a space for adults to consider the brain reasons for the child’s behavior. All behavior communicates an unmet need. When we only focus on the challenges the behavior brings, we fail to receive that message most of the time. Instead, seeing the child invites the adult to consider the unmet need. From there, you work smarter, not harder, to help the child meet that need. Or, to manage the strong emotions that arise when that need can’t be met. Read that again. Manage the emotions that arise when a need cannot be met. So important, but rarely done!
