Wow. Not sure what to say about you, Laura. I will be following you on social media because I just want more of what you have to offer. I think I learned more about the mind and brain with you in this three-part series than I did in my graduate program!
I’ve been working in the early childhood field for almost 20-years and I’ve never seen a trainer as knowledgeable, experienced, and compassionate as Laura Fish. She fielded some really tough questions and comments from us without getting ruffled. When we returned to work on Monday, everyone was talking about how much they learned. She’s a pro!
I came into this training thinking, “I don’t ‘do’ emotions.” I never thought they were important. How wrong I was. Thank you, Laura, for demonstrating the “why” behind Emotional Intelligence. I’ll be “attending and befriending” from now on!
When my director said we were going to be learning about how to integrate video into our coaching sessions I was terrified. How was I going to convince teachers to let me videotape them? Then I took Laura’s training on coaching with video, followed her guidance, learned the framework she developed and it was way easier than I thought. I think because Laura is so strength-based, and her approach is clearly pro-teacher. The video is meant to help them “work smarter, not harder,” as Laura says and indeed it did.
I don’t know how Laura does it, but she makes complex information about the brain understandable and fun to learn! Before we took her training, I was annoyed with people always talking about the ‘science’ because it never made sense to me. After the series “Teaching with the Brain in Mind,” my team and I are much more confident in our ability to work with children with challenging behavior. Our whole classroom has been transformed. We no longer feel overwhelmed and hopeless. Once Laura taught us how to look for the ‘brain reasons’ for behaviors, we were able to apply our strategies much more effectively.
Come back soon. Like every day. We want you in our classroom. You are our Yoda.
What do I need more of following this training? Laura Fish! I need more of you to help me be a better parent, partner, and person.
What stands out about Laura is her experience as a teacher AND a mental health practitioner. She effortlessly integrates “what” strategies to try out with the “why” those strategies are important based on the brain science. Laura helped us understand the importance of ‘seeing the child BEHIND the behavior’ in providing an inclusive, equity-based, nurturing, and responsive climate for the children (and adults!). My staff walked away from this training with not just a bunch of “strategies,” but with knowledge they can apply ongoing to prevent challenging behavior and promote social and emotional development. We really are working ‘smarter, not harder’ thanks to Laura.
I was nervous to go to this meeting with other parents, but I am glad I go. Laura make me think more about how to be a good father to my boys and how maybe some ways I was doing it was just because I didn’t know another way. I know now. Thank you Laura.
Three hours flew by. I was engaged the whole time, taking notes furiously because it was all so interesting. But Laura broke up all the heavy focusing with funny stories, interesting examples, and checking in on the audience to make sure we were all doing okay. I was nervous to talk in the beginning, but she put us all at ease so I was really able to learn better.
Thank you so much, Laura, for inspiring me to not only be a better teacher, but also a better parent, and partner. Gosh, this material about the brain just has so many important applications. I can’t wait to start implementing all you taught us in my life. I will be forever grateful.
My English isn’t good and I don’t like groups. But thank you Laura for making me feel good about myself as I learn this important information. I no want to be mean to my kids. I want that they feel good about themselves like you showed me how. Gracias por todo!
Thank you, Laura, for including the ‘parallel process’ throughout your training. You kept acknowledging how important it is for the adults to care for ourselves while we care for the children. Somehow you managed to do this seamlessly, illustrating how the strategies we use to help the children feel seen, soothed, safe, and secure can be modified to work with adults, too. I’ve never been to a training where the presenter was so supportive, gracious, culturally inclusive, and welcoming of the participants’ input even when they were disagreeing. Wow. Can you be our trainer forever?
In my program, we talk a lot about inclusion and being culturally sensitive. It’s a huge focus for us. Thank you for folding in this important lens throughout your training series. Both in the way you presented the material and how you responded to questions: it’s clear that you are a social justice warrior with an eye to looking for ways to help adults update their thinking when it comes to children’s behavior so we treat them more humanely.
